The Chinese port of Guangzhou, the 5th largest container port in the world, exceeded 10.16 million TEU in the first six months of this year, which is 9.7% more than a year earlier, TASS reports.
Last year Guangzhou climbed up 2 lines higher in the Alphaliner port rate, displacing Hong Kong from fifth place: port turnover grew by 7.6% to 21.92 million TEU.
By 2021 the port will complete work on the fourth stage of expansion of the deep-water area of the Nansha port. A new fully automated terminal will be built here which will increase the capacity of the Nansha area to 20 million TEU.
For the first half of 2019 the Nansha area exceeded more than 8 million TEU, it’s 6.8% more than in the previous year.
